After starting a frogging a bunch of different patterns, I finally settled on a Feather & Fan scarf for my sport weight.

The Twist and Lace scarf is about half done. I work on it when I want something simple to do.

Once again, I have ripped out my sock made from Miss V's Pink Ribbon. I really like this yarn but I am having serious issues with what pattern to use. First, I tried the Pink Ribbon pattern, then one of Evelyn A. Clark's patterns and now, an excessively simply ribbed sock pattern.

Why is this happening to me!? Everyone else's stuff is lovely. I WILL forge on.

Lime/Violet and Pink Ribbon Flowers

I created this card for the Creative Mom Podcast ATC exchange. I crocheted two small flower rings (pattern from Uncommon Threads): one in Pink Ribbon and one in Lorna's Laces Hawaii. I combined the two for the center flower (pattern from Stitch Diva). I couldn't figure out how to attach them to my card, so I crocheted a granny square in LL Island Blue. Slip the ring through and over the flower and viola! I sewed the center bloom down. Now all I have to do is secure the granny square to the card.

ETA: I updated the square to a rectangle. :) Now it's really done.

Warning I took the pictures at night, the color is off but I wanted you to see the super cool braid and completed sock.
Completed! I didn't use a full skein I should have done an extra repeat of two on the leg, but I love the braid pattern and everything.

Obviously the Color is off, but the braid is amazing!
Here is the braid down the footI love the pattern, but I will probably never knit it again. I will definitely do another cable sock and I think this was a great start

I have finished my socks and in time for my friend's daughter's Bat Mitsvah in one month's time. I love the way they turned out. I know that the recipient with love the colors. The pattern was pretty easy and it's just enough of a pattern to keep it interesting, but not too complicated to make it difficult to carry on conversations while knitting. Happy day!

I'm really happy with how the colorway is playing out in the pattern though. It's the Misty Meadow scarf from teh Holiday 2006 Interweave. Very simple, rhythmic feather and fan. Loving it.

Well, actually, grafting ribbing is a bit more than just a pain, but I don't use those words in mixed company... ;-) I did end up with quite a pain in my neck after I was done leaning over my knitting for such a long time.

Pattern will be forthcoming. I first off will need to figure out the best way to write it all down, & how to do the graph in electronic form. I'd like to use it to raise money for women's cancer-related charities somehow also.

Hi, I received my yarn a whilae ago but just couldn't find the right pattern,until now. I will be making the Sister Scarf by Lisa Lloyd Designs. It is a lovely lacey scarf designed for Breast Cancer Awareness. They also have pink ribbon sock pattern but I have some other Breast Cancer charity yarn which I going to knit these with. I am hoping to cast on tonight, so will post photos when I have something resembling more than some twisted yarn and needles. It is great to see everyones projects!

Grafting is new to me...

I've got 3 different halves done on the scarf now, but I'm having issues grafting. I probably need to give it a try first thing in the morning, when my brain is fresh, but when I don't have any time constraints, which probably means next Saturday morning.

Does anyone have a good online grafting tutorial link that they'd like to share? I've never done it, except for invisibly joining sweater shoulders on a couple of items many, many years ago. (& I had in-house help from my Norwegian host mom at the time, so I was spoiled.)

Design & Yarn Challenges

Well, I've finished the first piece of the scarf, but when I started on the second half of the scarf, the pooling is coming out completely different on the second half vs. how it was on the first half. I like both varieties of pooling, but I'm afraid the scarf will look lopsided if I graft them together.

So I think I'm going to do something slightly different with the pattern of the second piece I'm working on. Then I'll have to make two more halves to go with what I've already done, & hopefully get both sides of pooling to blend better so that I have two finished scarves at the end instead of just one.

This is my first time designing this sort of pattern, so it may take me a little while to get it written down. I'm also still playing around a bit with minor variations, especially since I'm now making the first half of a second scarf. I do plan on publishing the pattern at some point, though, perhaps to raise money for a women's cancer related charity.

Editted to add: The Pirate Mitts in the picture are my own variation of the pattern available at Hello Yarn. The yarn was from my stash, & the contrast between the two is less than might be desired, but my boys like them. The size difference was achieved with different DPN size, but the same number of stitches.

What can I say, it was a long, long month. Jury duty was maddening, and WAY too long. (if you must know, the saga is on my crochetcompulsive blog) One or all of the kids have been sick constantly since New Year's. (that's what we get for having 17 kids in the house that eve in a vain effort to grab some "grown-up" activity. even serially run Cars couldn't keep the little germ factories off each other.) And #3 almost had to have his toe amputated. And he's just one. And his birthday was a few days ago and one sib was puking and the other was delirious with fever.

There is not enough yarn in the world at this point! But here's what I've been doing with the sportweight Pink Ribbon to ease the twitching:

That was iteration #1, the giant snowflake that was to be part of a linked series making up a healing shawl for a friend. Yeah no. Way too much blocking would be necessary both now and every time it was washed. YUCK. (fun pattern though, find it on CrochetMe. I guess with worsted no blocking necessary.) Frogged it without a second thought and now there's this:

Yes boys and girls, them there are KNITTING NEEDLES! The one plus coming out of the deep dreary depths of the past month be my triumphant conquering of the needles. Jury Duty was good for something at least. This is effort #2 for my friend. It's the Misty Meadow scarf pattern out of Interweave Holiday Gifts...and there are K2tog AND yo, and I can do them both! I recently tuned in to Lime & Violet and became an instant fan. I have long admired Lisa Souza's yarns, and I can't wait to get started on my project. I got the sportweight yarn in this morning's mail, and I am planning to use it for the Children of Lir stole from Traditional Knitted Lace Shawls .

I am absolutely knocked out by how gorgeous the yarn is. Everyone's projects look wonderful, and I am so glad to have the opportunity to join you.

I just saw a question in the comments of my post showing my Argosy scarf. I wanted to make sure Miss Lime got an answer:

I ordered the Sock! Merino since I was planning on making socks. But the more I looked at the yarn and the more I saw the other scarves on the KAL - I had to make Argosy. I'm using US 4 needles and It is thinner than I think the original pattern calls for, but I'm happy with it because it will look great with a little white shirt and a demin jacket for spring.

I think I'll still have enough left over for a pair of ankle socks.

Everyone's projects are looking sooo great!

Now that I can post I'll show how my socks are going. I've been working on the yarn over cable pattern in the Sensational Knitted socks book.
Here's how my progress has been going...
I started them on the 1st of January and got here by the 9th

When it iced like crazy in Oklahoma I was able to work on them a little bit after I finished a big project I was working on.

Now I've finished the heel and have done about 2 inches on the leg. I'm hoping to finish the first sock this weekend. yay!

I finally started knitting with the yarn du jour. It's great (thanks again, Lisa). Well, I started by casting on Hedera socks, but that wasn't jiving with my knitting style (assuming I have any style at all), so I switched to a different pattern. It's a Fiber Trends pattern, I think called Angel's Rest. It's really started out to be quite pretty.

I'm off to knit some more...

My yarn arrived a couple weeks ago, but I haven't had much knitting time. I was going to attempt my first sock, but apparently my needles wanted to make something else. I decided to try my hand at the clapotis. Since I only have 3 finished projects under my belt, two of them being very small. But this is a fun project. I'm looking forward to completing something of this size. This yarn is very beautiful and I'm having a blast reading what everyone else is doing, and getting to know other knitters as obsessed as I am. Me being a lonely knitter with no knitter friends in town. Well other then the friend I taught, and she is strickly a fun fur knitter. I've decided that this is my "take along" project. The Twist and Lace pattern from Lisa Souza is the easiest lacy pattern I've used yet. Took about an inch of knitting before it all clicked into place in this aging brain. When I finish this one, I know there will be another. I have about a foot done.

I don't want to stop! I just want to keep knitting...and knitting...and knitting. (Of course, this is after I frogged it three times while starting out. I'm pretty sure there are mistakes in there, but I'm not enough of a pro to tell for sure.) This is all I got done while on vacation, though. I can't seem to knit while talking to people, watching movies, or reading (which is when I usually do it) so my lace knitting time is curtailed. I'm loving it, though, and already planning the shawl I need to make for le grandmother when this is done. (Pattern is Branching Out from Knitty)

Christmas Present

I decided my V's Pink Ribbon yarn was the perfect First Yarn to be wound with my Christmas presents. (Muggle-type husband person did really well in the gift department this year!)

I think it's kind of cool how the yarn looks almost plaid on the yarn cake.

Open Rib Socks

I finished these right after Christmas, but have just gotten around to photographing them. I haven't worn them yet.

I used the Open Rib pattern from Sensational Knitted Socks (the 6 stitch chapter), and no modifications really. US size 1 needle and I think 66 stitches. The yarn was yummy to work with and I have a lot left over--something like 50 grams. I'm consider buying a skien of Poiple and doing a stranded pair. I'm not sure if anyone over age 10 could pull off that combo? Definitely not me anyway, they'd have to be a gift.

I'm a bit late in joining the KAL - in fact, I waited until I finished sock # 1 in Violet's Pink Ribbon. Also, I had some trouble joining this blog since I've already moved over to the "new" Google blogspot, but figured it was just easier to create a new acct on this one, esp since my other blog is all genealogy related! Anyway, enuf chatter - here's pix of the sock: I followed the pattern Medrith's Little Lace Sock from the book A Gathering of Lace. I modified it to do toe up on 2 size 2 circulars. I'm still pretty much a novice sock knitter. Who know's when sock # 2 will be done, as I've already cast on for two other sock patterns! (I have serious 2nd sock-itis) But the sock feels absolutely wonderful on! Hopefully that will spur me to start the second sock soon. Scrappinduck (aka Diane)

I'm so thrilled! Somehow I missed the email when my yarn was sent, so I was completely surprised to see it in the mailbox! I bought two skeins of the 100% Merino, with the idea of knitting a shawl with it. I have some shawl ideas swirling around in my head, & may end up creating my own pattern especially for Violet's Pink Ribbon. I just cast off a lace shawl this morning, so I'm all set to start on on new one.

Sadly, the yarn is currently destined for a secret project, but if there are leftovers, well... I'm sure it'll find a project for itself. The yarn arrived yesterday; it was sitting happily on the table when I got home from work. I rolled it into a ball right away, and am thrilled at how pretty it looks. (Just seeing it in the skein I was a little worried. It was so PINK! But balled it looks like a strawberry cream soda or something equally delicious and edible.) Unfortunately she sent me the sock weight instead of the sport weight I had ordered, so I had to rethink my plan a bit. However, I've been wanting to try lace knitting, so I cast on "Branching Out" and am on row 12 or so (after frogging it once because I screwed up the stitch count 8 rows in). So far? It looks kinda scary. Lace knitting might not be my forte....but if worst comes to worst I can just frog it, right?

One skein of the sportweight was way more than I needed to make an EZ baby surprise sweater. It is super-cute! I also made a little bonnet and am working on a pair of booties out of the second skein and what was left of the first. (All patterns are found in The Opinionated Knitter.) After that, I'm going to start another baby surprise and, if I run out, stripe it with a contrasting color. I'll take and put up photos when I get back to my home this weekend. :)

OK, I had a horrible yesterday. You can read about it on my blog if you like, but it was truly not a stellar start to the holiday weekend craziness. And today in MN sees it RAINING. Not only do we not have any snow, but it's pouring. That means soon everything will be ice...great for looking at, very pretty and sparkly on all the trees and bushes, but not so good for driving...or power lines. However, look what was in my mailbox today!

Have several things to finish before the holiday, but then it will be all about this yarn...mulling over plans now, have some preliminary thoughts on the blog. Yippee, and happy solstice! Dawn

I just got an email from Liza--my yarn is shipping today! I'm still not sure what I'm going to make with it; I ordered the sport weight instead of the sock weight, and I'm almost wishing I hadn't. I think, though, that I'm going to end up making some sort of baby clothing out of it; there are always showers to attend around here, and I think the colors would be adorable for baby stuff. I'm thinking maybe one of the adorable little kimonos from Mason-Dixon and maybe a pair of booties? I guess I'll decide eventually...

I got my yarn and started knitting right away. I had an empty pair of sock needles ready to go. For some reason I was thinking that this would be somewhat self-striping and I had planned to do a pair of Jaywalkers. It not really striping, but I do think it is really pretty. I decided that with the ballerina pink I would go for something lacey (but not too lacey or I’d never wear them). I’ve settled on the Open Rib pattern from Sensational Knitted Socks.

Well, I frogged the sock. After 2 pattern repeats, I just didn't like the way it was knitting up. Needs a different yarn, maybe something crisper like Koigu. Went through my patterns and settled on the Twist and Lace scarf from Lisa's site. It was designed with Sock! Merino. I'll cast on after dinner.

I've started Cookie's Monkey pattern from the latest Knitty, modified to toe-up, and have one pattern repeat. Not sure if I like it yet. Thought I'd post a photo. (Hope this link works!)

Julieanne, I've been pondering what pattern to use too...consulted with my mom, who knows nothing about knitting but has a great eye for the purty, and she liked the Hedera pattern from the spring 06 issue of Knitty.

So I mixed things up and tried to make the blog work for everyone, and I know it works on IE and Firefox, but I'm not sure about the other ones so if you can't the blog read well then let me know and I'll get back to work. Otherwise I'm fairly happy with it and as we all know my propensity for spelling errors please correct me if I misspelled anything. I can't wait to get home from school and enjoy my yarn!

My yarn is here! I just checked my mail, and there it was! It feels very soft. The pink is slightly different from what I was envisioning (it's more of a salmon pink instead of a pale pink), but it still looks great!. Anyone have any ideas for patterns? I saw the breast cancer sock, but I'm wondering if the color change will obscure the pattern. But yay for yarn!
